Double page spread drafts

I have used the same editing soft where in order to edit the pictures for my contents page as I did for the front cover and contents page images.

In order to create my double page spread I used the pixlr app. 

Here are my first three drafts for my magazine however there are a few things that don't work. Due to the background of the image you are unable to read the writing very clearly. In order to over come this I am going to add a background to the image in order to put the writing onto. I am keeping the colour scheme of red, white and black as the writing is going to be in those three colours. In the interview I need to put the questions in bold in order for them to stand out, however Pixlr doesn't allow you to have separate parts of the writing in bold so I am going to need to have separate text boxes for the questions and the answers. 

I changed the heading to be a the top of the page, this makes it clearer to read and stands out a lot ore. It gives a clear indication about who and what the article is going to be about. 

Contents page first draft

For my contents page I used the contents page from vibe further down my blog for inspiration. I have included similar features in mine as I liked the way in which the contents page had been set out, it was very simple however it was very effective.

Again like with my cover image there are many things that I still need to change and edit with my cover in order to get it the way in which I want it. As you can see from first glance the size of my picture is to big so in order for it to work in my magazine I am going to need crop it down or add a border to it in order for it to be portrait. I have used Pixlr in order to add the writing onto my image however don't think the font that has been used for the word 'contents' stands out enough so need to look into finding other fonts. 

Editing My Contents Image

When editing my Contents Page I did it in a very similar way to my Cover image. Again I used iPhoto in order to edit these images. 

 I made the picture lighter, as the image was dark due to the time in which it had been taken.

Like done with the cover image I made the picture warmer as I want the same colour scheme to be used with the images. 

I then used the 'Retouch' feature to get rid of any blemishes my models may have had.

Band Bio

The people that I have used for my magazine are a band called Romeo, Titus and Brian. I decided to call the band T. R. B so have just taken the first letter of each of there names. My cover is almost intelligent R and B as I have not gone for the typical hoodies and a urban back ground. So the name has also gone with the same as it doesn't include any symbols or aberrations like many band names and R and B artists do. 

First Draft

I have created my first draft of my music magazine cover however I can already see what is and isn't working about the cover. There are many different aspects of the cover that I am going to continue to edit and change until it is the way in which that I want it. 

As seen from my last post the picture that has been used was landscape, in order to over come this I have placed my image onto a white boarded which then makes it portrait. My colour scheme has been shown in the cover as it is black, white and red which is commonly used in many other magazines. However I am going to have to change where the writing that is on the image has been placed as it is not able to be read easily. The change may be to the font or the position in which is it on the cover. 

The fact that the band name has been put in bold makes it send out and draws the reader to it as it is in red however is not directly central. It does show how that is the name of the band and they are going to be the main feature of the issue. 

With the same at the bottom I have add a few names that are going to be included in the magazine, however I don't feel although the font goes with all of the others around it. I was also unsure if I should be using red or black as the colour however I did go with black as I am going to use red for any writing that is on the image itself. In the bottom right I have made a small statement as to why that band is on the cover however I don't think it fits in so will need to add in something more interesting. 

When creating the cover I need to ensure that I am using all of the conventions that are used in order to make up a magazine cover. 

Editing My First Image

The first thing that I did to my cover image was lighten it up, due to the time at which the pictures were taken it has already got dark. 

After increasing the lighting on my image I then make the picture warmer. I like the effect that this gives it the pictures as it is different from the usual. The tone of the picture complements the colours of everything that is in the background of the image. 

One of the last things I did to my image was to use the 'Retouch' on the editing software in order to get rid of any blemishes or imperfects that my models may have had. I only used this to even out there skin tone.  

I then need to crop the picture in order for it to fit onto the front cover. The fact that the picture has been made smaller without some of the background in draws more attention to the models as they are now the centre of the image.

Synergy and Techological Convergence

In order to ensure that magazines are not just able to be printed they are seen as a brand. This allows them to increase the amount of profits that they are going to be able to get as they will be able to publish the magazine in the way that is the most popular at the time. 

Synergy: 

This company own more than one brand, meaning they are able to take the profits from many different brands that they own. Due to the amount of technology we now have when looking at media there is a rang of different ways to do it. Due to many different platforms being used there is going to be different advertisements used on each of the different forms which leads to there being a larger audience. If a new film is produced there are many different advertising methods that are now used these are as follows:

• YouTube Ads
• Posters 
• Tv Ads
• Billboards  

The company will the use the name on as many things as possible like: 

• Soundtracks
• Cups
• Clothing

Any merchandise that is going to have the brand symbolised on it.

Technological convergence:
This is about how we use a technological appliance for more than one thing. When we are using our smart phones now we are usually doing more than one thing at a time, when scrolling through twitter we would be listening to music and messaging people at the same time. When on laptops there is usually more than one tab open at a time as you would be doing multiple tasks. We use technology more and more as it becomes more and more up to date. Due to the ways in technology is evolving it is changing the way convergence occurs in music magazines.

First image

I have now taken my pictures for my magazine, above is the picture that I am going to be using for the cover page. As seen by all of the other magazines all of the artists have used direct eye contact, so I ensured that my models did the same. I like the way in which all of the back group has been slightly blurred out and the main focus is the fore ground. 

Like said in my plan when picking models you don't want to have people that look like they are camera shy. As shown in the picture the models look natural, the image does not look although it has been staged. The pose looks like it has just come natural to them and I have taken the picture. The confidence and attitude that has been shown in the image reflects the house style. The facial of all three models in the same, concentrated and serious. The angle at which the picture has been taken it at a slight angle, it is not directly in front of there faces it is slightly lower than that. 

My house style is R and B so stereotypically I should have taken my pictures in a Urban setting. However I have done it outside subverted this and taken my pictures outside. Going along with the same theme I have then ensured that my models were not wearing the stereotypical trakies and a massive hoodie. As my media teacher commented on the fact it looks like a ‘Updated’ style of R and B. 

My colour scheme is going to be red, white and black. Although the models are wearing all black I am going to make the writing the writing around them white and red. That is the one thing that I am using from the as inspiration from another magazine for the cover. 

Fifty quid man

This was created by a man called David Hepworth. The magazine 'The Word' was founded by David Hepworth, however during 2010 the magazine stopped being sold. The idea of the fifty quid man was due to the fact men used to go into shops and spend around £50 on music. However due to all of the technology that is now around this no longer occurs. I have always used technology for most things in life, as we are become to rely on technology more and more. Music now gets listened to on youtube, spotify and iTunes. It is no longer common for younger people to have CDs collections like people used to. New music is now purchased from things like the iTunes store rather than going into shops like HMV and buying the CDs. This is the same for what is occurring to the magazine industry, magazines are not starting to publish online rather than having paper copies as people are no longer purchasing them due to everything being done on technology. These factors have to be throughout about when creating my magazine. What I am going to have to include in order to make my magazine stand out from the rest. What is going to make people pick my magazine up when they can read others at the click of a button on their smart phone. Due to technology the ways in which we are now doing things is changing.
