Rock Magazine:
The cover of Kerrang magazine fits into the criteria of what a typical rock magazine would look like. As I said above it has included both of the colours red and black which I personally think its typical of a rock magazine to. The main image is of a popular band, that are not looking pretty and smiling as that is not want the audience that purchase Kerrang would look for. This is also true for the four pictures down the side, they are not posed like a typical photo shoot would be. It is more 'depressed' in effect, which is also shown by the black used throughout the cover. The fact that the header of the magazine is smashed conveys the affects of the music and the way in which the base in the music due to the heavy metal that the music contains. Even the front of the writing is more sharp and straight showing how to the point the magazine is going to be.
Pop Magazine:
The cover of Top of The Pops is the opposite to Kerrang, this is due to the fact is contains all of the stereotypical features that come into mind when you think of a pop magazine. Like I said above the main colour that comes into mind when thinking about pop magazines is pink and that is one of the main colours that has been used on the cover. Another stereotype of pop magazines that has been used on this cover is using a popular boy band, they are also posed and looking 'pretty'. This has been done as they are one of the most popular bands at the minute which is what the readers of top of the pops are going to be interested in rendering, so by putting them on the cover it is going to increase the amount of sales that top of the pops will get. Other stereotype top of the pops is following in order to get move sales is using boys with six packs on the cover, by using 'attractive' looking males without tops on is also going to draw teenage girls into purchasing the magazine. The font of the magazine is a lot softer and more girly, with a swirls in certain letters.
Comparing the two magazines:
Both of the magazines draw in two different audiences that would have completely different music taste, with Kerrang appealing to teenagers that may be thought it be goths and into heavy metal music, and Top of The Pops appealing to teenage girls that are forever following their latest celebrity crazy on twitter. The layout of both of the magazine also show how they are different, with Kerrang having all of the headings places in straight lines around the cover so its easy to see exactly what the magazine is going to include. However Top of The Pops is almost like an organised mess as their is many different headings and pictures all around the magazine which shows just how much the magazine is going to include.
